Stumped for support OVER the last two years, Belinda Geldard has been organising Pink Stumps Day in conjunction with the Hervey Bay Cricket Association. Pink Stumps Day provides cricket clubs, businesses and schools the opportunity to show off their cricket skills while fundraising for the McGrath Foundation. The McGrath Foundation raises money to place specialised breast care nurses in communities across Australia, as well as increasing awareness in young women. Belinda said the Hervey Bay Cricket Association match earlier this year raised more than $1350 from raffl es, auctions, merchandise and cricket gear. “At the time I got involved, my mum was undergoing treatment for metastatic breast cancer,” she said. “We had experienced fi rsthand the great support McGrath Foundation nurses provide for those that are battling the disease.” On the day, pink cupcakes were sold LEVEL 1 WATER RESTRICTIONS Tom and Jack Geldard from the Hervey Bay Cricket Association show their support for Pink Stumps Day. along with Pink Stumps merchandise and raffl es. Items that were auctioned off from the Pink Stumps kit included stumps, wicket and cricket bags. “It was a fun day and it was great to see the generosity and overwhelming support from the cricket community,” Belinda said. “The kids in particular love dressing up in pink and covering themselves in pink zinc.” Both of Belinda’s children play cricket, which is why she thought it would be a fun event to get involved with and also raise funds for the McGrath Foundation. Nearly $7000 was raised between the Hervey Bay Cricket Association, Aldridge State High School and Maryborough Cricket Club. Altogether, more than 700 teams around Australia participated in a Pink Stumps event for the McGrath Foundation.
