Catherine, a 2012 Fraser Coast Anglican College graduate and former Hervey Bay Surf Life Saving Club competitor, said she was ready to become a nurse like her mother. “In 2013 I lived and studied in French-speaking Quebec, Canada, after I was selected by the Rotary Club of Hervey Bay Sunrise for an exchange program,” Catherine said. “In 2014 and 2015 I was travelling and studying and also an age manager with surf lifesaving, and I became very interested in helping Former Surf Life Saving competitor and recent high school graduate, Catherine Sugget, will join the fi rst rank of local students to study at USC Fraser Coast. others through nursing, which I’d grown up around.” Catherine will join the fi rst cohort of local students to gain a place in a Bachelor of Nursing Science at USC Fraser Coast. Walk the talk on consultation COUNCILLOR for Division 10, George Seymour, has called for greater community input into Council decisions and a full restoration of the public participation time during offi cial meetings. Previously, Council had a standing agenda item where members of the public could present to the whole Council during offi cial meetings and their concerns were recorded in the minutes. During the current term of Council, public participation was removed from the offi cial meeting agenda and moved to an earlier time where minutes weren’t recorded. Cr Seymour is calling for a reversal of the controversial decision. “As representatives we should be looking for every opportunity to hear the views of the community,” he said. “When we make decisions it impacts on everyone, involving the community and hearing their concerns can only improve the decision making process. “Local councils should be about grassroots democracy, we need to ensure that everyone can have their say and that decisions are made in an open and accountable way.” FRIDAY & SATURDAY $20 $16 Rib Fillet with creamy whiskey and mushroom sauce, chips, salad or veggies Tropical Parmigiana with chips, salad or veggies Top of Tavistock St, Torquay n HERVEY BAY SPORTS CLUB Formerly Hervey Bay United Soccer Club.
