RACQ fl at out with calls DRIVERS on the Fraser Coast kept RACQ roadside assistance staff busy last year with call outs to more than 4700 battery and 960 fl at tyre jobs between Howard, Pialba and Maryborough. Bundaberg followed closely behind with 4286 battery-related issues and 778 fl at tyres, while the Sunshine Coast more than quadrupled these fi gures – despite only having three times the population of the Fraser Coast. RACQ’s 2015 annual data revealed that more than 277,000 Queenslanders needed roadside assistance for battery troubles last year, which equates to a call out every two minutes. Human error was largely to blame for the fl at batteries, said RACQ spokesperson Lauren Ritchie. “Simple mistakes like leaving the lights on overnight can quickly drain your battery,” she Thousands of Fraser Coast drivers kept RACQ busy last year with call outs for fl at batteries and tyre punctures. said. The annual data also revealed that around 63,000 RACQ members locked themselves out of their cars last year. “New car technology and increased security means it can actually be easier to lock your keys in the car these days than it used to be,” Ms Ritchie said. “Worryingly, a number of these lockouts involved the rescue of children accidently locked in cars.” Ms Ritchie said RACQ roadside assistance staff were called out to rescue more than 1300 children and 710 pets locked in vehicles last year. “There’s never a safe time to leave a child or pet alone in the car,” she said. Ms Ritchie said RACQ expected this year to be just as busy. “In 2015 we were called to over 900,000 jobs to assist our members on the roadside,” she said. “Our fl eet of 425 patrol men and women will once again be working 365 days this year servicing Queenslanders 24/7.” We Can Make Your Special Day Amazing!
