Around 100 residents, many with little ones in tow, helped plant more than 1000 native trees and shrubs to bolster existing koala habitat and food trees. The Rural Fire Brigade held a sausage sizzle for volunteers while members of the Green Army, Council’s Community and Environment Program and Koala Care Fraser Coast, directed planting efforts. Councillor for Community, Heritage and Family, George Seymour, said the weather was perfect and the event had a great turnout from the public. “We had people of all ages, from the elderly to the very young,” he told the Indy. “Everyone was having a great time, it was a very informative and fun day for people of all ages.” This Sunday, July 26, Council will host another planting event for the public at the Hillyard Street Reserve in Hervey Bay, starting from 2pm. National Tree Day is an initiative of Planet Ark. This year marked the event’s 20th birthday. National Tree Day is the largest event of its kind in Australia. Big Brother camera for tides IF you’ve ever headed to the beach only to fi nd the tide is out or the wind is strong enough to blow a dog off its leash, then Council has the answer for you. One of the CCTV cameras at the All Abilities Playground has been positioned so people can check out the tidal conditions before they leave home. The images will appear on Council’s webpage www.frasercoast.qld.gov.au/weather-on-the-frasercoast and are refreshed every minute. There is also weather guide on the page which displays temperature, wind speed and direction the day’s forecast and a three-day outlook. $888 kg g SAVE $5.11kg Budget Rump Steak (1.2kg minimum pack) $199 ea Green Cabbage Navel Oranges PIALBA $1099 kg g SAVE $11.00kg Australian Pork Loin Steaks 99¢ PIALBA 10 | Hervey Bay Independent, July 23, 2015 LATE WEEK SPECIALS $599 kg g SAVE $4.60kg Australian Pork BBQ Chops kg $899 kg g SAVE $6.00kg Champagne Ham TRADING HOURS MON – WED: 8AM – 7PM | THUR & FRI: 8AM – 9PM | SAT: 8AM – 5PM | SUN: 9AM–4PM 155 BOAT HARBOUR DRIVE, PIALBA | (07) 4124 5991 | WWW.IGA.COM.AU Participating stores only.
