Like a true collector she would hunt for old 1970s Barbie dolls in thrift shops and pick unique Barbie editions from toy shops. It is her passion to keep the spirit of Barbie alive. “In every woman there is a bit of a Barbie,” she told the Indy. “She reminds me of my youth and how Barbie was a big part of a young girls’ life back then.” Angela has seen demand for Barbie drop dramatically over the years, with the introduction of new, “hipper” dolls to the market. “I used to love going to toy stores when the whole aisle was fi lled with Barbies. “Now she only takes up around 20 per cent of the aisle Angela Webber with two 1970s Barbies she picked up from a thrift shop. space that she used to. Angela, of Booral, bought her fi rst, a Sea Holiday Barbie, in 1991 when she was just 15-years-old living in Brisbane. “I’m enjoying reliving those early years with my own daughter.” When Alison, 11, was about four-years-old she became interested in Barbie and now has a collection of her own. In fact Angela has made a few sacrifi ces over the years, having removed a couple from their boxes for her daughter to play with them. “Alison has started keeping them in boxes - for an 11-yearold I am quite impressed. “It’s very hard to leave them in the box that’s for sure.” Barbie has a lot of competition these days.
