Veterans living in Hervey Bay and across the Wide Bay Burnett will now have access to faster and more effective treatment for a range of mental health challenges, following the Federal Government’s expansion of non-liability health care arrangements. Federal Member for Wide Bay and Deputy Prime Minister, Warren Truss, announced the additional support measures early last week. “Under the Government’s new arrangements, veterans who are diagnosed by a GP or psychologist with conditions such as PTSD, depression and anxiety, will be able to access free treatment programs,” he said. “This assistance will be provided without any need to prove a link between their service and their condition. “Up until now, access to non-liability health care was limited to veterans who had a condition diagnosed by a psychiatrist.” Mr Truss said the new arrangements refl ected the challenges that came with living in regional areas, and would help ensure that local veterans could access these services quickly and locally, without having to obtain a referral to a psychiatrist. “The key to good mental health is early action,” he said.
