Cooking up a storm with Halcro Street If you’ve never had any success with scones, or your apple crumble is more like a concrete slice, you might want to stop by the Halcro Street Community Centre in Pialba to pick up a copy of their latest cook book. Seniors in Focus project offi Juls De Waard said the recipes were sourced from a wide variety of members, staff and volunteers. “It’s a bargain. The recipes have been handed down through the generations and we have also included some inspirational sayings and quotes,” she said. “The books are on sale for just fi ve dollars each at the Halcro Street Centre and all the money raised goes towards helping run the various activities and programs that we host.” The cook book features age-old recipes ranging from soups and savoury treats right through to DECORATIVE GARDEN & PATIO ORNAMENTS JANUARY PROMOS Juls De Waard from the Halcro Street Community Centre said their new recipe book features age-old recipes just like Grandma used to make. mains and desserts. Feed your inner book worm The Fraser Coast Summer Reading Club, which encourages children to read over the school holidays, is running until January 17. Councillor George Seymour said it was a fun way for young people to explore new books at the library. “There is still time to participate in the Summer Reading Club and win some great prizes,” he said. The Club is open to children up to 16-years-old and is run in conjunction with the State Library of Queensland. “Our Summer Reading Club aims to encourage children to keep reading during the summer holidays.” A number of prizes are on offer to encourage kids to participate, including a mini iPad and gift vouchers.
