Festival for fun, fi shing and family More than 100 keen fi shers took part in the 29th annual Urangan Pier Festival put on by the Fraser Lions Club at the weekend. While the big fi sh avoided being hooked, pleasant weather was enjoyed by many onlookers. The Pier Festival Fishing Competition, organised by the Boat Club’s Fishing Club, weighed in a 7.53kg broad bar mackerel that won the senior section and a 1.156kg school mackerel won the junior section. Hundreds of prizes were donated by Fraser Coast businesses with major prizes awarded to the entrants who caught the heaviest fi sh with plenty of other prizes for lucky draws and raffl es giving everyone a chance to win. In the Fisherman’s Corner Live Weigh-In, rod and reel combos went to Glenda Arthur for a 358g bream, Chad Runnells for a 1.306kg fl athead, Bret Rees for a 110g gar, Ross Olm for a 248g whiting and Cheryl Searchfi eld for 370g fl athead. In the junior dead weigh-in major prize winner was Zac Arthur - McGregor – who won rod and reel combos from Anglers Den for second and fi rst place. The senior major prize winners were: Nick Finnis (fi rst), Ray Chitty (second) and Jordan Miller (third).
