Rockers raise $5k for cancer trek Nicky Iwers’ mission to climb to the top of Mt Kilimanjaro in a bid to raise funds for the Breast Cancer Foundation and its Trek For A Cure Challenge was given a massive boost on Friday night when close to 100 residents donned their best rock inspired attire and rallied to raise more than $5200. Hosted by Ms Iwers and her alter ego Chrissy Amphlett, the rock-inspired musical trivia night saw Ms Iwers’ overall fundraising kitty reach more than $10,000. “Darren Carter from the Torquay Hotel was extremely generous helping the cause tremendously - not only did he donate the venue, the food on the night and spot giveaway prizes, he also donated a $200 voucher for fi rst prize to the winning music guru’s,” Ms Iwers said. Ms Iwers would like to thank Hervey Bay businesses; CLM Accountants, CSG Law, Lillianas Coffee Shop, Elders A $1.08 million upgrade is set to see one of Urangan’s most used roads receive a new kerb and channel, as well as better drainage and landscaping. Hibiscus Street, which runs along the rear of Ocean’s Resort and parallel to the Esplanade has been earmarked for development for a number of years. The redevelopment, which will be undertaken by Realway Property Consultants who supported the event in participation, along with Hervey Bay Mensland, Fire and Ice, Con Souvlis, Ocean Therapies, Brian Benton from Riveria Resort, Scotty Mad About Meats and Doug Testa who all donated prizes for raffl es, auctions and the best dressed participants. “Scott Gilmour and Andrew Bland from Mixfm 103.5 also jumped on board and took time out of their busy lives to be fantastic quiz masters on the night,” she said. An inspired rocker did a striking impression of Gene Simmons from KISS to win the best dressed male and score a $50 voucher from Hervey Bay Mensland on Friday night. Real Estate, IGA Fraser Shores, Top of the Bay Bakery and Lanson Civil, is expected to start in October and fi nish in January, weather permitting. Noting the road is the main thoroughfare which takes people to and from the Urangan Pier and the Urangan Harbour, Infrastructure and Planning Portfolio Councillor Trevor McDonald (pictured with Cr Seymour) said it was time to upgrade the infrastructure. “Scott and Andrew also judged the best dressed competition.” Ms Iwers said a special highlight of the night included businessman Dave Plummer accepting an ice bucket challenge.
