A few good memories NOW STOCKING CHARLIE BEARS Every little creation from Charlie Bears has been lovingly hand made with the greatest attention to detail An original “mess hall” built for army personnel serving in the Vietnam War will bring back a few rare good memories. The steel shed, which stayed in storage at Wallangarra army depot for 45 years until Toogoom RSL members dug it out and put it together on a parcel of land leased from Fraser Coast Council. The panels from the crates will line the interior of the shed. Local tradies have assisted throughout the construction process, which includes toilet and shower facilities. The completed project will include a Memorial Walk and gardens, of which donations of plants, pots, rocks, and pavers are being sought. An opening day is planned for around ANZAC Day next year. “This is a unique shed, built for war zones in the tropics,” Ken said. “It’s built strong to withstand attacks so it is certainly cyclone proof.” Donations of plants, pots and landscaping materials are being sought to complete the grounds (left) and branch president Ken Higgins with the boys from 21st Field Construction.
